Angul: Cuttack B emerged men’s team champions of the 23rd Inter-District and State Table Tennis Championships, which concluded here Friday.
Cuttack B comprising Dishant Parida, Mohammed Yunis, T Shiva, Sudeep Behera and Saheel Suman Bhuyan won all their three matches in the final round to take the top honours. Cuttack A comprising Tohid Haque, M Eswar Rao, K Karthik, M Shiva and Mohit Behuray lost only one match to finish runners-up.
Cuttack A represented by M Eswar Rao, Saheel Suman Bhuyan, Mohit Behuray and Santosh Pritam clinhed the junior boys’ title while Cuttack B made up of BSR Pati, Arya S Mohaprasastha and Md Izhaar finished runners-up.
In women’s singles Ananya Basak, Suryasmita Aparajita, Poushali Ghatak and Gitanjali Heyal advanced into the semifinals. In the sub-junior girls’ singles Swetapadma Dalei, Sikriti Bhagat, Sushree Patnaik and Nandini Biswal made it to the round of last eight.
Pramod shines
Pramod Bhagat of Orissa entered the quarterfinals Friday in both the singles and doubles events at the ongoing Para Badminton World Championships at Ulsan, South Korea,
In singles Pramod defeated Saman Mandizar of Spain 21-18, 21-15. In doubles Pramod and his partner Tarun won two consecutive matches to advance. In the first match the Indian pair prevailed over the France duo of Aciver Deviler and Hugo Saumir 21-14, 21-18 while in the second the Indian combo defeated the Scotland pair of Alin Oliver and Richard Nilson 21-15, 21-15.
