Bhubaneswar: After the cyclonic storm ‘Daye’ made a landfall near Gopalpur, heavy downpour and wind have marred normal life of the citizens in the tribal-dominated district of Malkangiri and the low-lying areas have been completely inundated in water. Taking stock of the situation, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned a gratuitous relief of seven days for the district.
Rs 60 per day has been announced for adults and Rs 45 per day has been announced for children below 12 years in the affected region. The relief was announced after the Chief Minister reviewed the rainfall situation. Along with the relief, the district administration has also been directed to reach out to all the affected persons and extend assistance.
Reportedly, Malkangiri has been most-affected by the cyclonic storm with over eight rivers in the district are in spate. Road communication between the district and Chhattisgarh has been disrupted as water flows above the road at different places.
Water has also crossed danger level in Balimela reservoir. Electricity supply has also been cut-off and storm water has also entered the Janbai CHC triggering panic amongst the patients.
