Cuttack: Sulesh Sahu alias Sola, an aide of the Dhalasamanta brothers, was arrested Sunday. Three guns and 11 rounds of live bullets were seized from his house.
Officers of the commissionerate police raided Sola’s house at Telisahi Ranihata and arrested him in connection with the possession of illegal firearms.
Police said Sola had won several tenders of the water resources department, the roads and buildings department and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) with the help of the Dhalasamanta siblings.
According to sources, Sola was initially a close confidant of a former minister and a former mayor of the city. He was working as a private contractor under the patronage of the two leaders. Sola had subsequently managed to build a good rapport with the Dhalasamanta brothers.
Police also raided the residence of Bholanath Bhagat of Badambadi for his alleged links with the criminal siblings. Sources said police seized several important documents of a commercial entity floated by the Dhalasamantas from Bhola’s house.
According to police, Bhola was looking after the financial affairs of the Dhalasamanta brothers and had been on the run since the siblings were arrested.
In a related development, police Sunday served a notice on a youth leader of the city unit of BJP and asked him to depose in connection with his alleged link with the Dhalasamanta brothers.
“We do not know the political affiliation of the person concerned. We asked him to depose before police as his name came to fore during our investigation,” said Chauliaganj police inspector-in-charge Ajay Das. PNN
