Bhubaneswar, August 21: Known for his remarks against the party line, BJD vice-president and minister Damodar Rout Sunday questioned the need of the Kalas Yatra being organised by his own party’s women wing in five Western Orissa districts opposing Chhattisgarh government’s Mahanadi projects.
Stating that Kalas are used during marriage and other ceremonies, Rout said, “I do not know if pouring water from Kalas will fill up Mahanadi.”
Dama, through his remarks, indirectly questioned if the move of the ruling party members will sort out the dispute between the two states.
He also questioned the role of senior BJD leader Surya Narayan Patro in the Kalas Yatra.
While Patro has been entrusted with organizing Kalas Yatra, Rout said, “Women carry Kalas on their heads. Why is he (Patro) carrying it on head?”
However, Patro refused to react. “We both are vice-presidents of our party and our duty is decided by the party president,”
he said.
