Bhubaneswar, Dec 27: Odissi dancers cast a spell on audiences with their gracious movements and depiction of mythological epics at Rabindra Mandap Saturday on the occasion of the five-day International Odissi festival.
Nrutya Pratibha, a city-based group, performed a classical dance in the famous Panchtatva dance form. Members of the six-member group, who supported their lead well, elicited applause from the audience.
Panchtatva was followed by a solo performance by Archana Murali, an MBA student, who showed the pain of Radha during separation from Krishna through her dance.
Gargy Nayak, a law student who was the third to perform, won the audiences’ heart who with her grace and beauty. Her dance also depicted Radha but was a romantic performance.
Gargy made a beautiful entry to the stage, depicting a scene in which she fetches water from a pond where she stumbles upon the reflection of Krishna in water. The whole act was clean and a treat to the eyes.
Nayak’s performance was followed by a duet, which again was technically clean. The duo, Mani Behera and Tapan Kumar Sahoo, who did tandava, drew applause from the audience.
Two other solo performances by Rinku Kumar Sahoo and Manisha Manaswini and a group dance by Smprada also enthralled the gathering.
