Cuttack, April 20: DAV Public School, Cuttack scripted an emphatic six wickets victory over New Stewart School (NSS) to enter the final of the PVR Murthy Inter-School cricket tournament at the Bhuvanananda Engineering Ground here Monday.
NSS, after opting to bat first, were dismissed for only 71 in 10 overs against some penetrative bowling by Devi Prasad Bhanja (3/16) and Prajwal Laha (3/26). In reply, DAV cruised home in 12.1 overs for the loss of four wickets. Devi Prasad bagged the man of the match award for his bowling effort.
Amateur CC advance
Md. Akram’s (45 runs, two wickets) superb all-round show helped Amateur Cricket Club (ACC) register an easy 88 runs victory over Royal Club and enter the title round of the PVR Murthy Inter-Club cricket tournament at the Bose Ground here Monday.
ACC opted to bat first and scored a challenging total of 188 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Niranjan Behera (47, 31b, 7×4, 1×6) and Md. Akram (45, 18b, 6×4, 1×6) tormented Royal bowlers by hitting them all over the ground. In reply, Royal could manage only 100 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted overs.
Aparajita slips
Aparajita Gochhikar slipped to fifth place after losing to compatriot G Sandhya in the seventh round of the World Amateur Chess Championships at Halikidiki Islands in Greece, Monday. Aparajita (four points) is now tied with three others in fifth place. Sandhya is in second position with 5.5 points in her kitty.
Stewart win
Stewart School scraped past Bhakta Madhu Vidyapeetha (BMV) 3-2 in the inaugural match of the Debabrata Kar Memorial Inter-School football tournament at the PM Academy Ground here Monday.
The match ended 1-1 in regulation time. In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Stewart converted two of their five chances, while BMV could strike only once.
In the second match, PM Academy was declared winners as Municipality High School did not turn up.
Sepak Takraw tourney
Orissa State Sepak Takraw Association (OSSTA) will organise the VIIth federation Cup National Sepak Takraw Championships in Rourkela, October 2-14. Eight men’s team and same number of women’s teams will participate in the competition, which will be played only in the Regu event.
