Berhampur, May 7: The two youths from Bihar who were shot dead on the outskirts of the city Wednesday were train looters and over two dozen of cases were registered against one of them, police said Thursday.
The duo was identified as Lalu Kumar Yadav and Solistis Yadav of Bariharpur village of Munger district, SP Sarthak Sarangi said adding both were involved in several criminal cases. The firing incident was the fall out of an argument over the distribution of booty. The details about the deceased were not clear after the preliminary investigation Wednesday. A clear picture emerged after the photographs of the youths were sent to the SP of Munger, Sarangi informed.
According to police sources, there are about 24 cases registered against Solistis in Munger district. Besides, both were wanted in many cases in Orissa also. Government Railway Police (GRP) of Khurda arrested the two in February 2014 for stealing the belongings of train passengers and produced them in court. They resumed their act after getting bail in the cases. Police also suspect their involvement in various looting incidents under local GRP limits.
Solistis is suspected to be the mastermind of the group of the youths engaged in criminal activities as he was carrying a bounty of `50,000 on his head by Munger police, SP Sarangi said.
The police also suspect their involvement in some other illegal trades as live bullets were seized from the pockets of the dead. Assistance of Munger police has been sought to arrest the youths who had absconded after the incident. They are suspected to be members of Solistis gang. The involvement of the youths in gun-trade cannot be ruled out also as live bullets were seized from the spot, police said adding few youths from Bihar were arrested last year for running an illegal gun-trade.
According to reports, eight youths hired two autorickshaws at Chhatrpur Wednesday to go up to Kamapalli. A youth at the road side near Lanjipalli bypass tried to stop the autorickshaws by wielding a gun. Both the drivers of the vehicles fled the scene out fear. Later, three gun shots were heard on the spot. The drivers, who were detained by police, said they don’t know much beyond this. While a bullet pierced the head of Solistis, Lalu had two bullet wounds on his body.
Post-mortem of the bodies couldn’t be conducted till this report was filed as the relatives of the deceased are yet to arrive at the hospital.Meanwhile the police have released the sketches of the youth who fled the scene after the incident.
