Binika: A mega drinking water project worth Rs 199 crore to ensure clean and hygienic water in Binika and Dunguripalli blocks of Subarnarpur district has hit a stumbling block.
After the laying of pipes, work hasn’t progressed much. Locals alleged that though work of the project was started one-and-a-half years back, no information plaque has been put up at the project site.
They said that work is progressing at a snail’s pace and will not meet the deadline for completion. Reports said, the project aims at providing clean and hygienic drinking water to 199 villages under the two blocks.
A total of 1.59 lakh people will benefit from the project. Under Basudha Yojana, the government has sanctioned Rs 199.77 crore for the project. A Rajasthanbased engineering and construction company was awarded the work in 2020.
“Though 20 months have passed since construction began, the work has not gone beyond pit digging and laying of pipes,” locals alleged.
Road sides have been dug up to lay pipes in many villages. However, with work yet to be completed, residents of Bankighardi, Kukudajholi, Bagadia, Denupadar and Jampalligan are facing problems, they added.
Ramgopal Khandari of Manigan, said that the company digspits for laying pipes, but it is least concerned about filling the pits properly.
Dasrath Suna, a native of Balasranga village accused the construction company of not doing the work in a proper manner.
Executive engineer of RWSS, Bibhu Prasad Panda said that due to Covid situation, the work has got delayed. He added that the information plaque of the project will be put up soon.
