Sambalpur: The indefinite shutdown called by the Western Odisha Bar Association demanding a bench of the High Court in Western Odisha showed its impact with all Central and State government offices in the region closing down en masse Monday.
The association has also decided to hold a 48-hour Mahabandh across the region November 29 and 30.
The activists of lawyers association also picketed in front of government offices including courts, LIC office, post offices, passport seva kendra and BSNL office here and launched a relay hunger strike pressing for their demands. The students of law also took out a bike rally in solidarity with the agitators.
Lawyers in Sundargarh and Subarnapur also extended their support to the stir and picketed at government offices in their respective districts, reports added.
The Deogarh Lawyers’ Association also boycotted courts and closed government offices in the district. This led to a chaotic situation in the towns of Western Odisha and normal life was affected with vehicular movement coming to a standstill.
Locals had to go through unwanted problems following the bandh.
