Barbil, July 7: With cases of dengue on the rise in Barbil area in Keonjhar district, the disease claimed its first victim in the state Thursday evening.
Sukarmuni Sandil (40), a native of Ward No. 8 who was suffering from fever, died Thursday evening, said sources. She was admitted to Barbil CHC July 3, and a blood test at the district headquarters hospital July 5 has confirmed she had dengue. After medication, Sandil was sent home. As her condition grew critical Thursday, she was re-admitted to the CHC Thursday noon. She died at about 6 pm.
The medical officer of the CHC, Dr Soudamini Dhal, said Sandil was under treatment for dengue, but what caused her death is yet to be ascertained.
Sandil’s death triggered panic among dengue patients in the area. Keonjhar MP Sakuntala Laguri and minister Badrinarayan Patra visited Barbil CHC Thursday.
