Bhubaneswar, June 4: A play based on the life of a devoted Devadasi staged at Rabindra Mandap enthralled the audience on the concluding day of the 3rd state-level drama festival Thursday.
The two-hour play was performed by 20 members of the city-based theatre group-Satabdira Kalakara.
“The drama revolves around the life of a devoted Devadasi, Lavanya, who has dedicated her life to Lord Krishna. Many people conspire against her and try to frame her by making false charges. However, her devotion was proved in the end when she dies while performing a dance in front of the lord,” said Ashwini Majhi, a member of the theater group.
Several people thronged the auditorium in the city to see the play. “I have been coming to the drama festival since the first day. A number of amazing plays were staged in the last three days. As today was the concluding day of the festival, I decided not to miss it and came eagerly to see what was in store for the day,” said 28-year-old Tarini Ray, a theatre enthusiast from the city.
“I came to know about the theatre festival through the newspapers. The subject attracted me,” said Rajeev Behera, an MA political science student of Utkal University.
