Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP), R P Sharma Friday instructed all superintendents of police (SPs) to take action against those who are adulterating petroleum products and manipulating dispensing system in petrol pumps in the state.
The DGP asked the SPs to prosecute them (people adulterating petroleum products) under sections of Indian Penal Code and under Orissa Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act, 1951 and any other relevant law as the case may be.
Stating that there have been frequent allegations by people on the adulteration of petrol pump products as well as manipulation in the petrol pump dispensing system by use of micro-chips/ electronic device/ remote sensors, Sharma said the police will now start action.
Intelligence source said that some petrol pump retailers in connivance with some unscrupulous persons plant electronic gadgets to manipulate the calibration system of dispensing pump which amounts to forgery of electronic documents, police said.
“By forging such electronic systems, they used to cheat the customers regularly by way of collecting full price for lesser quantity of commodity,” Intelligence sources said.
DGP has also asked the SPs/ DCPs to instruct their field functionaries under their control to take stock of intelligence inputs in the matter and register criminal cases against such offenders.
The DGP has also emphasised on proper coordination between the officers of Civil Supply and Legal Metrology (Weights & Measures) departments for joint verification and registration of cases appropriately.
The DGP also instructed the SPs/ DCPs to submit the result of such enforcement every month to CID, CB or through special reports.
