Anandapur: The dilapidated condition of road forced relatives of two women – an expectant mother and another patient – to carry them on cots up to the place accessible to ambulance in this block in Keonjhar district Monday.
In the first incident, when Jingi, wife of Raban Bansingh of Dhabani village in Gayalmunda panchayat here, complained of labour pain her family members called a 102 ambulance. However, it could not reach the village due to the bad road condition.
Finding no alternative, the family members carried her on cot for almost a kilometre. The woman, however, gave birth to a girl on the cot even before reaching the ambulance.
Later, the mother and child were admitted to Panashadiha primary health centre with the assistance of an ASHA. The condition of both the mother and baby is said to be stable.
Few hours later, Jana, wife of Shankar Ho from the same village, fell ill. This time too, 108 ambulance failed to reach the village and the family members and villagers carried her on a cot up to the place where the ambulance could reach. She was admitted to Thakurmunda government hospital.
However, Anandapur BDO Umakanta Parida said there is no such area in Anandapur that are inaccessible to ambulances. These incidents are being projected to give a political angle, the BDO said.
Meanwhile, the sub-collector of Anandapur said the superintendent of Anandapur hospital has been directed to send a medical team to provide better treatment to the new mother.
“The BDO has also been asked to take stock of the situation,” he added.
