Bhubaneswar, March 2: Pioneer Gold Club of Puri qualified for the semifinals of the Garabadu Memorial Masters T20 cricket tournament by registering a thrilling 16-run win over Bhubaneswar’s Young Veterans here Wednesday.
The Puri side set up the match nicely by putting up a massive 180-run target for Bhubaneswar in the third quarterfinal. Dipak Mohanty (74 n o) and Khirod Mishra (60) led the batting for Pioneer. Dipti Ranjan Patnaik bowled well to bag three wickets for Young Veterans.
The Young Veterans started well after an 86-run second wicket stand but lost momentum midway through their innings and were restricted to 163 for seven. Narayan Moharana (60) and Purnachandra Moharana (48) batted well for Young Veterans while man of the match Alok Das (4/22) bowled well for the Puri side.
Rourkela on top
Govind Poddar (5/30) took a five-wicket haul and Ranjit Singh (101 batting) hit an unbeaten century to put Rourkela in the driver’s seat against Koraput on the first day of the two-day Group B match in the Kalahandi Cup at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Wednesday.
