Hatadihi: Shortage of doctors and inadequate infrastructure has crippled the healthcare service in various government hospitals under Hatadihi block in Keonjhar district.
Due to lack of adequate infrastructure and unavailability of beds in the hospitals, pregnant women and children are forced to undergo treatment on the floor.
Sources said seven primary health centres and 21 health centres are working under the Salania Community Health Centre where six doctors’ posts have been lying vacant for long. Necessary medicines are also not available there.

At Hadagarh Government Hospital, a staff nurse and a pharmacist are managing it in the absence of a doctor. Patients allege the pharmacist works at his will. Residents of Hadagarh and students of Hadagarh Navodaya Vidyalaya are dependent on this hospital.
In fact, primary hospitals in Mugupur, Sundarpal and Orali are working at the mercy of pharmacists.
Hatadihi Government Hospital is situated near National Highway 53. People who are injured in road accidents are brought to this hospital for treatment. However, locals of Hatadihi are dependent on this hospital also. Since several doctors’ positions in several departments have been lying vacant for years, patients are suffering.
Despite repeated agitations by the locals and NGOs, no steps have been taken to fill the vacancies in the hospital. Locals have threatened to launch protests if the doctors’ posts are not filled soon.
