Doctor held for forgery

Puri: Kumbharpada police Wednesday arrested a senior doctor at a government hospital at Rebana-Nuagaon in Brahmagiri block on charges of securing job on the basis of forged certificates.
Police arrested Badri Narayan Mishra, a resident of Balabhadra Lane here, after registering a case against him under sections 346, 420, 467, 468, 471, 476 and 167 of the IPC. Mishra was sent to judicial custody after a local court rejected his bail plea.
Sources said, Mishra had submitted fake high school and intermediate certificates to understate his age while securing job. A complaint in this regard was lodged with the chief district medical officer (CDMO) in 2012. The health department has rejected Mishra’s claim for promotion following a letter from the CDMO.
A social activist, however, filed a fresh plaint against Mishra in connection with the forged certificates recently. Subsequently, the health department directed CDMO Jagat Krushna Samantaray to lodge an FIR against Mishra over the fake certificate row.
“The health department higher-ups had directed us to file FIR against the doctor concerned,” Samantaray said.
Kumbharpada police in-charge Krushnachandra Sethi said they had discussed the fake certificate issue with the CDMO on receipt of a plaint from a social activist. “We have arrested the doctor as per CDMO’s FIR,” he said. A few intellectuals, meanwhile, criticised the health department for the incident. “How could somebody get appointment as doctor by submitting fake certificates? Some health department officials might be party to the act. An action being taken against the doctor, who is retiring in four years, is nothing but eyewash,” said a social activist.
