Bhubaneswar: A pet dog sacrificed its life after fighting with a poisonous snake to protect its master’s family.
The incident was reported at Munda Muhana in Janla, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, under Jatni police limits Wednesday night. The dog died after killing the snake which could have devastated the master’s family.
According to reports, the dog intercepted the cobra while it was entering Koustuv Samantrai’s house at 9pm Wednesday. While Koustuv’s wife was engaged in household work, his mother Kanchanbala was in her room. As the cobra was entering Kanchan’s room, the dog, who was sleeping at the door, started barking and hindered the reptile’s entry. As Koustuv’s wife and mother were alerted, the dog attacked the snake and mauled it bravely.
Finally, the dog killed the snake. On being informed about the incident, Koustuv rushed the dog to OUAT veterinary hospital. However, the dog died on way to hospital near Patrapada.
