Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: Hosts Utkal University emerged champions of the East Zone Inter-University Women’s Kabaddi Championships, which concluded here Thursday. Ravi Shankar University finished runners-up, while Mithila University and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Universities secured the third and the fourth positions respectively.
On the final day, Utkal won three consecutive matches to take the top honours. The hosts edged out Kashi University 14-13, scraped past Ravi Shankar University 18-13 and trounced Mithila University 14-6.
Ravi Shankar triumphed over Mithila 20-14 and pipped Kashi 19-18 to be satisfied with the second position. In another match, Mithila got the better of Kashi University 25-19 to secure the third place.
Hockey tourney
RSP University, Raipur blanked MG Kashi Vidyapitha 3-0 in a match of the East Zone Inter-University Women’s Hockey Tournament at the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Thursday. Barsha, Chandela and Damini Singh scored a goal each for RSP in this lop-sided match.
RK Academy win
RK Academy drubbed KIIT University 5-0 in the inaugural match of the All India Mahaveer Cup football tournament at the Janta Stadium in Kuhuri, Thursday. RK Academy dominated the match completely scoring twice in the first half and thrice in the second half.

Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) announced a 16-member team at Cuttack, Thursday for the Vijay Merchant Trophy match against Jharkhand at Jamshedpur, December 19-21. Biswajit Das has been appointed as the skipper of the team.
