Double crown for Orissa colts

Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: Orissa boys’ and the girls’ teams emerged champions in their respective categories of the SGFI National Rugby Championships, which concluded at Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Saturday.
In the boys’ final, Orissa drubbed Maharashtra 26-5 to clinch the title. Ratnakar Hembram scored two tries, while Sasanka Sekhar Tripathy and Sarbeswar Murmu had one try each. Ajit Kumar Hansdah had two conversions in this lop-sided match.
In the girls’ segment, Orissa thrashed hapless Bihar 14-0 to take the top honours. The eves dominated the match completely giving their oppositions hardly an inch to advance. Elizabeth Pradhan and Rajani Sabara scored a try each, while Sumitra Nayak had two conversions.
Calaghan Cup
Orissa Rugby Football Association will organise the All India Calaghan Cup Division-II Rugby tournament December 9 to 13 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Twelve teams and approximately 300 participants will take part in this competition.
Chess meet
Khurda District Association will organise the Vth Bhubaneswar All India Fide Open Rating Girls’ Chess Championship here December 10-15. The tournament carries a prize purse of `3.3 lakh, which will be played under the aegis of All Orissa Chess Association.
Tennis tourney
Bhubaneswar District Tennis Association will play host to the 17th All Orissa Nalco Open Tennis tournament at the Kalinga Stadium here December 11-13. All the top players of the state are expected to take part in the meet.
