Bhubaneswar: Debasis Sahoo and Kaamlesh Rath of Odisha stunned top seeds Vayam Krishna of Odisha and Shagnik Bose of West Bengal in the final to emerge U-14 boys’ doubles champion in the Gurukul AITA-OTA Talent Series U-14 tennis tournament here, Thursday. After a thrilling fight the Odiya combo won 6-2, 3-6, 10-8. They held their nerves in the super tie-break to emerge victorious.
In the U-14 boys’ singles final it will be an all-Odisha affair between Rabi Narayan Sahoo and Vayam. Rabi prevailed over Debasis 6-3, 6-4 while third seed Vayam came from a set down to beat Shagnik 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Team selected
Odisha Athletics Association (OAA) named a nine-member team Thursday that will take part in the U-18 National Youth Athletics Championships at Vadodara, July 21-23. The selected members are: Dilip Nayak (800m), Rajen Ekka (2000m steeplechase), Vinsen Samad and Punga Soren (both 110m hurdles), Jyoshna Sabar (400m hurdles), Manisha Merel (100m, long jump), Sukhi Baskey (100m, 200m), Fulamani Karjee (400m) and Tejswini Kispotta (5000m race walk).
Licensing course
AIFF will conduct the AFC B licensing coaching course in Cuttack, Football Association of Odisha (FAO) announced in a press release, Thursday. The course will be held in two modules — the first one August 20 to September 3 and the second one November 19-24th. Candidates having AFC C licenses are eligible for the course. The last date of registration is July 20.
