Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: Delhi Public School (DPS), Kalinga blanked St. Xavier’s School, Hazaribagh 2-0 in the final to emerge champions in the three-day CBSE Cluster II Inter-School football tournament here Sunday. With the title triumph, DPS qualified for the inter-school football national event which will be played in Mumbai.
Abinash Patel of Vikash Residential School, Bargarh was adjudged the best defender. Vikalp Kumar and Shivam Pasricha of the runners-up team bagged the best goalkeeper and player of the tournament awards respectively. Twenty CBSE schools from eastern India participated in the meet.
Tennis tourney
The All Orissa Tennis Association (OTA) will host the AITA-OTA 50k Men’s tennis tournament at the KIIT courts in Bhubaneswar. The tournament starts Monday. Forty eight participants from 14 states are participating in the event where the star attractions will be local players Chinmay Pradhan (top seed) and Ansu Bhuyan (second seed).
Satya appointed
Orissa Cricket Association treasurer Satya Mohanty has been appointed as the BCCI match observer for the Vth ODI match between India and South Africa at Mumbai, October 25. Satya has performed the role 14 times in international matches in India so far.
Prabin’s feat
Prabin Kumar Nayak of Orissa successfully completed the Level-II White Badge Officials’ exams conducted by the International Tennis Federation at Nonthaburi, Thailand, October 14-18. Prabin, will be the 12th certified white badge tennis official in India and first from Orissa after the certification programme came into effect in 1999.
