post news network, Bhubaneswar, June 10: A play revolving around one word ‘kintu’ and titled, ‘Kintu ek Sabda’, was staged in front of a packed Rabindra Mandap audience, Wednesday and got huge applause. It was a Nabin Barnali group presentation.
Written and directed by retired lecturer of the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Nabin Kumar Parida, the drama, based on social issues, portrayed the dilemma of a person that the word ‘but’ (kintu) created in his life. The dialogue-based satire, which had a streak of comedy running through it, not only portrayed the problems we face in the society, but also reminded us through its use of language, the confusion one faces because of the word ‘kintu’.
“The story is based on human relations. A comparison is made between love marriage and arranged marriage. Whatever the kind of marriage, there should not be any doubt about it. When doubt enters any relationship, complications arise and finally it ceases to exist. We must have faith in love and believe in our destiny,” said Parida.
“Through this drama we are just trying to tell the people never to lose faith and always have a positive attitude, so that whatever the situation, one faces it boldly,” he said.
Around 11 students, who were trained in the Mahavidyalaya, performed the play, which enthralled everyone present.
“Kintu is word, which plays a role or causes dilemma in our lives most often. The drama revolving around the word is really very appreciable and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The performance of these young students, their expression and dialogue delivery were just too good,” said Sudhir Das, part of the audience.
Noted theatre artist Asim Basu and writer Vijay Mishra also viewed the performance.
