Bhubaneswar: Odisha sprint queen and Olympian Dutee Chand clinched gold in the women’s 200m in the Indian Grand Prix (IGP) series here at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, Wednesday.
The Asian Games silver medallist Dutee completed the race with a timing of 23.30s to win her second gold medal in the IGP series. The timing will help Dutee improve her IAAF World Rankings in the 200m event.
Her timing also ensured that the sprinter made the qualifying cut-off for the Asian Athletics Championships to be held in Doha.
Anjali Devi of Haryana claimed the silver with a timing of 24.15s ahead of Supriya Maddal of Andhra Pradesh, who bagged bronze with a timing of 24.48s.
Hurdler Dharun Ayyasamy clocked a timing of 49.94s to win his second consecutive gold medal in the IGP series. The 24-year old improved his timing from 50.07s clocked by him at IGP-I held in Patiala Saturday. Santhosh Kumar bagged the silver with a timing of 50.77s and the bronze medal went to Ramachandran who clocked 50.83s. All three medals went to the athletes from Tamil Nadu.
MR Poovamma (54.12s) and VK Vismaya (54.76s), part of the Asian games 4x400m relay winning team, bagged the gold and silver medals in the 400m event. Uttar Pradesh’s Prachi secured the bronze clocking 54.74s.
Arokia Rajiv (46.49s) of Tamil Nadu won the men’s 400m race. The silver went to KS Jeevan (47.02s) of Karnataka while Kunhu Mohammed (47.19s) of Kerala claimed bronze.
The last event of the day 1500m women turned to be the most thrilling race in which PU Chitra outran Lily Das (4:20.89s) of West Bengal to win the gold medal by clocking 4:20.76s. Usha Sati of Delhi (5:08.07s) secured the bronze.
