London: Orissa sprinter Dutee Chand finished sixth in the fifth heat of the women’s 100m in the IAAF World Athletics Championships here, Saturday.
Dutee clocked 12.07 seconds in the race which was won by Brazilian Rosangela Santos with a time of 11.04 seconds. Dutee thus failed to qualify for the semifinals. Even had she clocked her personal best of 11.23 seconds achieved last year, it would not have been enough for her.
It was the worst time of the season by the Orissa sprinter as she was way below her season’s best of 11.39 seconds which she had set in one of the heats at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar last month. Later on she clocked 11.52 to win the bronze at the same event.
Gina Luckenkemper of Germany was the fastest in the women’s heats with a timing of 10.95 seconds, which she set in the first heat. Among others who qualified for the semifinals are Elaine Thomson of Jamaica, a favourite to win the event and 2015 Beijing Worlds 200m gold medallist Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands.
Earlier in the day, in the 400m heats, Mohammed Anas of India finished fourth, to miss out on the semifinals by a whisker. Anas clocked 45.98 seconds to finish fourth in his heat. The top three from each of the six heats qualified for the semifinals.
