The era of the inconspicuous ear piece seems to have ended with eyeball-grabbing ear cuffs invading the hearts and minds of the fashion-forward crowd
Forget earrings, it is high time you switched to ear cuffs, says anchor Lipsa Panda.
If you are still struggling with fuddy-duddy earrings and monotonous fashion and desperately looking for some change to add oomph to your everyday fashion, the time has come to switch to ear cuffs – a type of earring worn around the edge of the ear.
The updated version of the earring in the jewellery segment is the new trend. Ear cuffs are different from the traditional earrings as they tend to start from the bottom of the earlobe and climb upwards, while conventional earrings drop down from the earlobes.
The best part about ear cuffs is that they don’t require your ear to be pierced, as most of them come with one stud-like rod and then further up the ear there is either a clip to attach to the upper part of the ear or it simply curves around the earlobe.
Lipsa adds: “Ear cuffs spell glamour and are perfect for an evening party. I pair them with a gown as it gives a classy look.”
Stylist Sonalika Ray says that while ear cuffs add oodles of bling one need to be conscious about hairstyle. If your hair covers your ear, there is no point wearing an ear cuff.
She says: “You can leave your hair down all the way and swept behind the ears, either on one side or both, because ear cuffs are eye-catching. It is important not to add hair bling or necklaces as they make you look gaudy rather than elegant. Just a bracelet or a ring will work wonders. Always remember ear cuffs are not meant to be flaunted on both the ears.”
It’s all because of jeweller Rodarte, who was so much in love with the Games of Throne character, Daenerrys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons, that he created a dragon ear cuff. Add to that the love that many have for these mythical creatures made immortal in Anne McCaffrey’s series of books. When people saw them displayed, it was love at first sight!
Kate and Laura Mulleavy, two sisters, started Rodarte in 2005. The two Berkeley-educated sisters have won numerous awards during the past decade.
Celebrities
The list is long including Emma Watson, Rihanna, Keira Knightly, Cate Blanchette, Emma Stone, Mick Jagger’s daughter, Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock and many more.
For men
Interestingly, men are wearing ear cuffs as well, but they come in alternative styles. They belong to the body piercing crowd, while there are some stunning designs available in stores.
