Bhubaneswar, Sept 25: East Zone junior girls thrashed Patiala 10-2 in the inaugural match of the All India SAI Inter Regional hockey tournament at the Kalinga Stadium here Friday. However, the boys’ were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Kerala.
Altogether 36 teams from 11 regions are participating in this six-day long tourney. Ninety four players from East Zone have been divided into six teams who are participating in sub-junior, junior, senior boys’ and girls’ events.
GBYA win
Golak Bihari Youth Association (GBYA) edged past Tiger Youth Club (TYC) 2-1 in a Group C match of the Gati Krushna Memorial football tournament at the Unit I Boys’ HS Ground here Friday.
Ranjan Pradhan opened the account for GBYA in the 22nd minute of the match. He went on to double the lead just three minutes after and the team went into the lemon break with a 2-0 lead.
After the change of ends, TYC players turned aggressive and in the process Raja Bindhani got one back in the 56th minute. But GBYA tightened their defense and TYC could not get the equaliser despite their best efforts.
Saturday’s match: Chandrasekharpur Athletic Association vs Bir Birsa Youth Club.
