Cuttack, Oct 21: East Zone suffered a humiliating 110 run loss against North Zone in a match of the Vinoo Mankad U-19 Inter-Zonal cricket tournament at the Ravenshaw Ground here Wednesday.
Opting to bat first, North rode on a scintillating century by D Rangi (115, 98b, 12×4, 5×6) to score 300 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. North’s score was also aided by Himmat Singh’s (89, 84b, 9×4, 3×6) brilliant half century. Kuzi Junaid Saifi (3/29) bowled well for East.
In reply, East could manage only 190 runs in 42.2 overs getting all out in the process. Sandeep Patnaik (62, 72b, 10×4) continued his good form to hit a half century, but could not get support from the other end. M Dagar (4/33) was the pick of the North’s bowlers.
Brief Scores: North Zone 300/9 (D Rangi 115, Himmat Singh 89; Kazi Junaid Saifi 3/29) beat East 190 (Sandeep Patnaik 62; M Dagar 4/33) by 110 runs.
West Zone win
In another match of the tournament, West Zone beat South Zone by six wickets at the DRIEMS Stadium here Wednesday.
Opting to bat first, South Zone scored 269 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 50 overs thanks to brilliant half centuries by K Vaidya (85, 83b, 6×4, 4×6), M Sundar (77, 11b, 6×4, 1×6) and S Reddy (56, 57b, 6×4, 2×6).
Chasing a victory target of 270, West romped home in 48.4 overs with contributions from Adeeb Usmani (79, 105b, 3×4, 3×6) and Arman Jaffer (70, 69b, 9×4, 1×6).
Brief Scores: South Zone 269/5 (K Vaidya 85, M Sundar 77) lost to West 270/4 (Adeeb Usmani 79, Arman Jaffer 70) by six wickets.
