Bhadrak: Eight sacks of rice supplied for the mid-day meal (MDM) scheme, along with a microphone system, speakers and other items, were stolen from Mangalpada Upper Primary School under Bhadrak Rural police station limits Saturday night.
Headmistress Geetanjali Das lodged a complaint with the police Sunday.
According to the complaint, the school cook noticed the gate open Sunday morning and informed the school management committee president, Mahendra Kumar Das.
The headmistress and the committee president reached the school and found that the lock on the office room had been broken.
The keys to other rooms were taken from the office, and the locks of all classrooms had been opened.
The locks were reportedly found lying in front of the classrooms.
The committee president suspected that the stolen items had been transported in a pickup vehicle, based on tyre marks found at the site.
The school’s main gate lock had also been broken.
Police have registered a complaint and are investigating the incident.
