Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police officials have made elaborate traffic arrangements in a bid to avoid congestion in the city during Durga Puja and Dusshera.
Commissionerate police officials said route restrictions will come into force from October 8 till 13 when no heavy goods vehicle will be allowed from 4 pm to 2 am through Governor House to Nandankanan Road, New Airport Square to Acharya Vihar, Sishu Bhawan to Vani Vihar Square, Lingipur Square on NH 203 to Rasulgarh via Kalpana Square and Bomikhal, Fire Training Institute to New Airport Square through Ganganagar.
“Similarly, no heavy vehicle will be allowed on the service roads between Khandagiri and Rasulgarh Square. Moreover, no traffic will be allowed from Vani Vihar to Raj Mahal Square October 12 from 2 pm till mid-night for immersion procession,” they added.
A notification in this regard was issued by twin city Police Commissioner Yogesh Bahadur Khurania under Section 28 of the Orissa Urban Police Act, 2003 (Orissa Act 8 of 2007) and in pursuance of regulation 36 of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) Regulation, 2008.
Bhubaneswar traffic ACP Jatindra Kumar Panda said to ensure free flow of traffic during the festivities, parking at designated places will be allowed from Vani Vihar Square to Sisu Bhawan Square on both sides of the roads.
“However, no vehicle will be allowed to be parked within a radius of 50 metres of the pandals,” he added.
Commissionerate police officials said that six platoons of police force, around 70 Orissa Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF) constables and home guards, 70 traffic constables, 15 traffic havildars, around 60 traffic volunteers, 75 NCC cadets, two inspectors and the traffic ACP will monitor traffic from October 8 to 12.
