Lanjigarh: In yet another example of poor ambulance service, the villagers of Golpatta under this panchayat in Kalahandi district Monday had to rush an electrocution victim to a nearby hospital in a sling as an ambulance didn’t arrive in time despite their repeated attempts.
The condition of the victim Linga Majhi (35) was stated to be critical. He was battling for life in the hospital as his family members expressed their inability to meet expenses of advanced medical treatment, a report said. According to sources, Linga had climbed a Mahua tree to collect fruit when he inadvertently touched a live 11 KV wire.
He was thrown away from the tree under the impact of shock. Though his family members tried to contact the 108 ambulance service, the service operator didn’t respond, it was learnt. Left with no option, they took Linga in a sling to a nearby hospital. The doctor there referred the case to the district headquarters hospital in Bhawanipatna.
However, the family has so far not shifted the patient to the district headquarters hospital
due to financial constraints, the sources said. When contacted, Dr Sanjay Behera of Lanjigarh hospital said the case was referred to the district headquarters hospital as both legs of the youth got paralysed after the electrocution. An ambulance has also been provided to ferry the patient, he added. PNN
