Duburi: Employees of the electricity department were thrashed by a defaulter at Dolapathara village under Kalinganagar police limits in Jajpur district Tuesday.
Sources said that the officials had gone to the village to disconnect the power supply of one Pratap Kumar Ojha (defaulter) due to the non-payment of bills amounting to around Rs 9,000. Meanwhile, Pratap started abusing the officials in filthy language. When the officials tried to stop him, in a fit of rage Pratap started beating them.
Executive engineer Asit Kumar alleged that Pratap during the collection drive also issued death threats if they visit the village again.
