Paradip/Balasore: A girl died and 10 others were injured after being electrocuted in two unrelated incidents in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur and Balasore districts, sources said Monday.

In Jagatsinghpur district’s Paradip, a girl and four of her family members suffered electric shocks at Balisahi under Kujang police limits. The deceased girl was identified as Ranu Behera, a source said.

According to the source, Ranu was electrocuted while trying to switch on a device. Ranu’s grandparents, brother, and a neighbour rushed to her aid upon hearing her screams.

They also got electric shocks while trying to rescue her. While Ranu died on the spot, others were injured, the source added.

Afterwards, all the injured persons were taken to a community health centre in Kujang. However, one of them was later transferred to a hospital in Cuttack after his condition worsened, the source informed.

In another similar mishap in Balasore district, six construction workers were electrocuted while working on the floor. All the six labourers sustained critical injuries following the mishap, another source said.

Later, they were admitted to community health centre in Baliapal.
