Mohali, Nov 5: South Africa may have bundled out India for 201 on the opening day of the first cricket Test here, but wrecker-in-chief Dean Elgar criticised the turf Thursday and said it is a ‘bad cricketing wicket’ even though it is result-oriented.
“I don’t think it’s a very good cricket wicket. It is my personal opinion. It is a result-giving wicket which is expected when you come here. But kudos to India, they are obviously going to prepare wickets like these against us, that is their strength,” Elgar said after the game, Thursday.
“But in spite of being a bad wicket, it is equal for both the sides, so not really worried about it,” Elgar added.
Elgar, who turned an unlikely hero with impressive figures of 4-22, conceded that he was surprised by his own bowling performance.
“Sincerely, I’m a little bit surprised with the outcome. Taking four wickets – I never thought that I would achieve my career best figures against India, more so with the more-than- capable bowlers that we have in our side,” pointed out Elgar. “But then, I’ve always had the ability to bowl. I’m not only a batter. But yeah it was nice to contribute with the ball,” he added.
