Cuttack: The birthday bash of a one-year-old boy turned tragic when his father died due to electrocution.
The tragic incident occurred at Brahman Sahi of Kalpada in 42 Mouza of Cuttack Sadar block here Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Subrat Kumar Pati (35), an engineer by profession.
Sources said Pati had organised Satyanarayan Puja followed by a party to mark his son’s first birthday. Amidst the celebrations, suddenly sounds of crying of women came from the house at around 11pm.
Sources said the Satyanarayan Puja was underway when Pati’s father Pranakrushna found a cloth was lying on the ground. He went to hang the cloth to an aluminium wire. However, Pranakrushana got an electric shock as the aluminium wire accidentally got connected with live electric wire.
As Pranakrushna screamed for help, his son rushed to his rescue. Pati hit the wire with a plastic chair to rescue his father. However, the live wire snapped and fell on him. Pati got an electric shock and fell unconscious. The family members and relatives rushed him to SCB Medical College and Hospital. However, the doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.
A pall of gloom descended over 42 Mouza following the engineer’s death. The police got the post-mortem conducted of the body Sunday morning and handed it over to the family. The body was cremated at the village cremation ground.
