Barang: The body of an engineering student, who had gone missing while taking bath in River Kathajodi near Naraj in Cuttack since Sunday, was fished out Monday.
The deceased was identified as Vicky Kumar, a student of a private engineering college and a resident of Jharkhand. Vicky along with four other classmates had gone to the river to take bath Sunday afternoon.
Vicky’s classmates shouted for help when the former slipped deep inside the water. Hearing the scream, locals rushed to the spot and informed the police. Fire brigade personnel from CDA reached the spot and began a search after being informed by the police. However, they couldn’t trace Vicky.
An NDRF team also searched for the student till 8pm Sunday, but in vain.
A team of five locals led by fisherman Pitabas Behera of Naraj village ventured into the river to trace the missing student. They found the body of Vicky floating near pillar No. 19 and recovered it.
Barang police registered a case (6/19) of unnatural death and sent his body for post-mortem.
