Balasore, April 4: The executive officer of Jaleswar municipality Saturday lodged complaint against 63 persons on the charges of furnishing fake handicapped certificates to avail of pension.
The executive officer had earlier submitted a list of 63 applicants for pension under handicapped category to Balasore sub-collector. It may be noted here that the civic body had recommended the names of 64 applicants for pension along with their handicapped certificates to the district collector in September 2014.
The administration had sent the certificates to the district headquarters hospital for verification.
However, the office of the chief district medical officer found 63 handicapped certificates were forged and intimated the matter to the sub-collector.
The sub-collector had in November, 2014 asked the executive officer of the civic body to take action against the applicants and the staff who had recommended their names for pension. Four months had passed after this directive, but no steps were taken. The sub-collector had to send a reminder to the executive officer in this regard March 27.
The sub-collectors also sought to know from the executive officer about the legal steps taken in this regard and intimate about it to him at the earliest.
It is also alleged that many people in the district have got government jobs by furnishing fake handicapped certificates in reservation quota while thousands of genuine persons are deprived of various benefits and left jobless.
A racket is said to be operating to provide fake handicapped certificates to the people. Locals have demanded a probe into such illegal activities and stern action against the persons involved in it.
