Bhubaneswar, June 12: The economic offences wing (EOW) of Orissa Crime Branch Sunday questioned the chairman of the Oscar Group of Companies, Pravash Chandra Rout, for the second day.
Rout was arrested June 9 from a guesthouse in New Delhi for duping several investors. “Oscar’s money trail is being investigated. The company had 49 branches in Orissa, 58 sister concerns in Gujarat and at least five offices in Maharashtra,” said a source.
“To attract investors, Rout had conducted several stage shows in Surat, in which some well-known Oriya movie actors had also participated. A team of EOW officials will go to Gujarat to investigate the case. The officials will probe whether the gullible investors in Surat were mostly from Orissa,” he said.
Earlier, Rout was brought from Cuttack and was grilled at the EOW office here June 11. At least two officials of the agency had questioned Rout in the presence of a chartered accountant about the investment of `230 crore in eight Oscar Group companies.
