Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court ordered Thursday a CBI probe into the issuance of ‘erroneous’ JEE(Main), 2022 scorecard to a candidate last year.
Hearing a plea filed by Anshuman Kanungo, a division bench of Justices BR Sarangi andMurahari Sri Raman asked the central agency to submit the investigation report within four months.
In his petition, Kanungo informed the HC that he had secured 98.8810861 percentile in Session I and 98.9374067 in Session II of JEE (Main), 2022 conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). “Kanungo received the NTA scorecards for Sessions I (98.8810861) and II (98.9374067) in his mail July 11 and August 8, 2022 respectively. However, later he was told by the testing agency that he had secured 18.8810861 percentile in Session I and 33.1374067 in Session II,” Kanungo’s lawyer AK Pandey said.
With 98 percentile, Kanungo was hopeful of appearing in the JEE (Advanced), 2022. With no way out, the petitioner approached the testing agency, but to no avail, Pandey and his associate S Palit argued. They asserted that the document in Annexure-1 contains the photograph of the petitioner and QR code which indicates that Kanungo secured 98.8810861 in Session I.
“It has been duly signed by the senior director of NTA and the date of declaration of the result was July 10, 2022. The petitioner was also supplied with score card vide Annexure-4, wherein his CRL number has been prescribed as 11193,” the lawyers said.
Deputy Solicitor General, PK Parhi, on the other hand, contended that the documents relied upon by the petitioner are not genuine. “Therefore the relief sought by the petitioner cannot be granted,” he said.
The HC observed that if documents provided by the petitioner are genuine, he should get admission into choicest institutions like IIT or NIT. “However, if the documents are found to be not genuine, then it is to be found out how the same has been obtained by the petitioner,” the HC bench added.
