Badasahi: Hailstorm caused a lot of damage in various parts of Badasahi block in Mayurbhanj district Wednesday afternoon. Scores of trees and utility poles were uprooted, disrupting power supply in Badashi, Balasbhadrapur, Madhapur, Pratapur, Sanakeraka, Uthaninuagan, Gualbandh, Purnachandrapur, Naupal, Jadunathpur, kendudiha, Chandanpur, Patisahi, Manitri, Bhimda, Mnagobindapur and Shalagan panchayats.
Roofs of houses were blown away. With falling of trees, communication on Badashi-Betanoti road and Badashi-Manitiri road was disrupted.
Firefighters were deployed to clear the mess from the road.
A part of Badasahi hospital was broken after a huge neem tree fell on it. Several shops in the local bazaar were damaged after fall of trees.
Vegetables in the areas were damaged extensively, leaving farmers worried.
Although cyclone Fani did not affect northern district earlier this month, the hailstorm has affected people hard.
