Balasore: A married woman and her brother-in-law who were allegedly in an extramarital relationship died by suicide during a video call in Balasore district Sunday night.
The deceased have been identified as Varsha Singh (26) and Rakesh (26).
According to a source, Varsha, wife of Manas Kumar Singh (29), was residing at her in-laws’ house at Mulida Bazaar under Basta police limits in Balasore district. Manas was working with a Pune based private company.
During the absence of Manas, Varsha allegedly developed an affair with her husband’s cousin Rakesh.
However, they couldn’t keep their affair a secret for long. After coming to know about their relationship, the family had sent Rakesh to Pune to work there in a company.
Even if they were separated, they remained in touch with each other through phone. For reasons yet to be established, they decided to end their lives Sunday night. They kept talking to each other through video calling and hanged themselves while still being on a video call.
Family members rescued Varsha in a serious condition and rushed to Basta government hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.
Registering a case of unnatural death, the police have launched an investigation into the matter.
