Berhampur: Police Wednesday arrested a man on charges of abducting and killing a 7-year-old Class I from his house in Gosaninuagaon area here in Ganjam district, January 12.
The deceased has been identified as Ashish Anshuman alias Ayush of Sadananda Vihar while the accused has been identified as Debasish Panda of Jajpur area.
According to police, the boy’s mother Nirupama had befriended Panda on social media a year ago. He used to visit her house frequently and she had introduced him as his ‘dharma’ brother to everyone.
Ayush turned seven January 5 and Debasish had come to her home to celebrate her son’s birthday.
According to police, the boy had gone missing since January 12. His mother had lodged an FIR in this regard at Gosaninuagaon police station.
During probe, police learnt that Panda had taken the boy to drop him at school. Later, police arrested Panda from Sambalpur who confessed that he had stoned Ayush to death after kidnapping him over one-sided love affair with the minor’s mother.
“Panda picked the boy on his scooty on the pretext of dropping him at school. But instead of taking him to school, he rode towards Tara Tarini forest in Purushottampur where he stoned the child to death before fleeing to Sambalpur to a friend’s place. When the deceased’s mother lodged an FIR, the police reached to the accused during investigation. We also seized Ashish’s blood stained ID-Card and school dress from Debasish’s possession,” informed Bishnu Pati, SDPO, Berhampur.
During interrogation, Debasish confessed to his crime. He even showed the place where he had killed and dumped the body of the minor boy. The police seized the body and have sent it for post mortem.
“I was attracted towards Nirupama and wanted to establish physical relationship with her. But she declined my love proposal. The boy seemed to be always around her and I felt that he was posing an obstacle in our relationship. So I killed him to pave my path,” confessed the one sided lover.
Police has seized the scooty in which Panda took Ayush to the forest and visited the crime scene with Panda to recover the body of Ayush. The video of Panda taking the boy on a scooter has also been captured on a CCTV camera.
