Barbil: A mother committed suicide Friday, two days after her minor girl hanged herself to death. The mother was overcome by guilt as the girl ended her life aggrieved over the mother not taking her to an engagement function. The two are survived at home by a little boy.
The incident was reported from Maharana Sahi near Barbil in Keonjhar district. The deceased mother was Dasma Birua (32).
According to locals, the woman lived with her daughter Bharati, a Class IV girl and her four-year-old son Amrit. The other day, she left home to attend an engagement function, leaving the two children alone in the house. This upset Bharati so much that she ended life by hanging herself in the house.
The woman returned from the function only to find her daughter dead. Since then, she was deeply depressed. After saying she alone was responsible for her daughter’s death, Dasma hanged herself in the same spot Friday morning. With the mother and sister gone, the little boy has been orphaned.
Police launched a probe and sent the body for post-mortem. A case of unnatural death has been registered.
