Nabarangpur: As many as 21 teachers had got appointment by the virtue of fake certificates in Nabarangpur district in between 2011-12 to 2021-22 educational years. Nineteen teachers are absconding after the Education department recently initiated a verification drive.
Out of 21, one has died in the mean while and another arrested.
Due to faulty policies of the department, such miscreants manage to get jobs and money from the government exchequer is swindled.
Allegedly, verification of certificates is not being strictly carried out prior to giving appointment as teacher to any candidate. Moreover, subsequent action becomes weak after a fake teacher is caught.
According to a source, the district Education department has so far spent around Rs 10 lakh towards verification of the certificates of fake teachers under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan. Verification reports of some of the teachers have been submitted while reports of several others are still awaited as the institutions concerned have not sent for years.
BEd, Matriculation, Plus II, CT and caste certificates of at least 3,358 teachers from Nabarangpur district were sent for verification during the said period. Precisely, the department has received verification reports of 1,568 teachers and yet to receive reports of rest others.
Notably, FIRs were previously lodged at different local police stations in Nabarangpur district against the 21 fake teachers. Except the one who has died, 20 others have been dismissed from their services.
