Balasore: A fight broke out over offering of puja as part of Sabitri Brata at Chandaneswar temple in Raibania of Balasore Tuesday. The women of five families were barred from doing so.
A complaint was lodged by Sumati Mohapatra of Kalika village with Raibania police station.
Sumati had gone to the temple with her husband Mrunalkanti Mohaptra at 10 am. However, the priest refused to perform puja for the couple.
At that time, Chittranjan Biswal and Chandan Das of the same village allegedly abused the couple and misbehaved with him. The woman was allegedly assaulted by the duo.
On the wall of the temple, it was written that the priest of the temple has been barred from performing pujas from the families of Nirmal Mohapatra, Parimal Mohapatra, Bimal Kumar Mohapatra, Sarbeswar Mohapatra and Mrunalkanti Mohapatra.
As a result, the women of these families were deprived of performing puja on Sabitri brata.
