Jajpur, Nov 3: A farmer of Bhagirathpur under Kuakhia police limits in this district was beaten to death by group of people after his tractor accidentally strayed into a farmland adjoining his paddy field Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Kushadhwaj Sahu (55). Ajay Padhiari, his brothers Sanjay Padhiari and Bijay Padhiari and others of nearby Kanpur village have been named in the police FIR as those responsible for the killing.
The incident triggered tension in the area with irate people staging a road blockade at Chandi Square near Dahanibar village demanding the arrest of the accused. The protesters kept the body on the road and burnt tyres. They relented after Kuakhia police rushed to the spot and assured them of action.
Police registered a case over a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother Basant Sahu and started an investigation.
The incident occurred when Kushadhwaj was ploughing his farmland near Baghadian mouza with a tractor. The vehicle accidentally strayed into the neighbouring farmland as a result of which some groundnut seeds sown on the field came out.
Enraged, the paddy field owners Ajay, Sanjay and Bijay kicked Kushadhwaj and beat him up black and blue with a farm implement. Family members brought Kushadhwaj home in a critical condition. After drinking a glass of water, the framer fell unconscious. Family members rushed him to Madhuban hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. PNN
