Sambalpur: A farmer ended his life by consuming poison at Puruna Jhankarpali village under Burla police limits in this districtSaturday evening. This followed similar attempts by two farmers in Bargarh district the other day.
The deceased was Pramod Rohidas, 34. The family said he was under stress due to severe crop loss caused by cattle herds from a neighbouring village. He approached officials and complained about the loss. However, his complaints fell on the deaf ears and no help was offered to him. Upset, he took the extreme step, the family said.
Rohidas had cultivated paddy in a few acres of his farmland and had hoped to reap a good harvest. The cattle herd dashed his hopes.
When other family members were away, he consumed poison.
Family members said they rescued and hospitalised him in a critical condition. This didn’t help. He was declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctors. Police registered a case and launched a probe.
