Bhadrak: Police Thursday arrested a man and his second wife for allegedly stabbing his married son to death in a land dispute, a day after the killing at their home in Chunida village in the Bhadrak Rural police station area. Rabindra Sahu, 65, is accused of fatally stabbing his son, Bikash Kumar Sahu, with a knife Wednesday morning, following a long-running property dispute and prior enmity between family members, police said. His second wife, Mamata Sahu, 48, was also arrested on charges of aiding the killing. Officer-in-charge Subrata Das said the arrests followed a complaint filed Wednesday by the victim’s wife, Smrutirekha Dash.
A case (653/26) was registered, and police initially detained the couple before formally arresting them Thursday and producing them in court. According to the complaint, the attack took place around 8:30am Wednesday at the family home. Dash said she rushed to the scene after hearing her husband scream and found her father-in-law stabbing him in the stomach, with her stepmother-in-law present and allegedly assisting.
The complaint also named Dash’s sister-in-law and four others, bringing the total accused to seven. News of the killing drew a large crowd and caused tension in the village. Police took the suspects into custody and sent the victim’s body to the district headquarters hospital for a post-mortem. Bikash and Smrutirekha were married in March and had reportedly been living separately from his parents before the killing.
