Cuttack: Fazal Ahamed of Rajasthan and Tanuza of Andhra Pradesh emerged champions in the men’s and women’s singles categories respectively in the IIIrd Invitational All India Carrom Tournament at Cuttack, Sunday.
In the men’s singles category Amol Sawardekar of Maharashtra finished runner-up while Naved Alam of Uttar Pradesh secured the third position. D Kubendra Babu of Tamil Nadu stood fourth. In the women’s category MSK Harika of Andhra Pradesh finished runner-up.
In the junior boys’ category Sidhant Wadwalkar of Maharashtra clinched the title and Vijay Dhaje emerged runner-up. In the junior girls’ category L Hari Priya of Andhra Pradesh emerged champion and SK Husna Sameera finished second.
Pramod clinches gold
Pramod Bhagat of Odisha clinched a gold medal in the Thailand Para Badminton International Championship after beating compatriot Manoj Sarkar 21-18, 21-9 in the final in Bangkok, Thailand. On the basis of this performance, Pramod has been directly selected for the upcoming Asian Para Games.
Chess tourney
DAV Public School, Kalinga Nagar will organise the 14th State Schools’ Open Chess Championship in Bhubaneswar, starting August 5. Prizes will be given to the players occupying top 15 positions. School students of the state up to class XII are eligible to participate in the tournament.
