Balugaon: Fed up with repeated harassment and eve-teasing by a ‘stalker’, a college girl committed suicide by consuming poison near Balugaon area in Khurda. The victim, a Plus III student, was rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to the Berhampur hospital in a critical condition, but died while under treatment.
The ‘stalker’, Prakash Dalei, had been arrested in the past for troubling the girl after her family filed a police case. As soon as he was released from jail, he started harassing the girl in worse ways. The man has been a long-time neighbour of the family.
“My daughter had not told us about his renewed activity. Out of fear, she kept quiet, and it was only when she was in hospital after attempting suicide that she revealed this to us,” said the girl’s father.
Balugaon inspector-in-charge, Sanjay Patnaik, said, “The girl died while undergoing treatment at Berhampur. The family had not reported to us about the recent harassment. We will take appropriate action.”
