Bhapur: The carcass of a female elephant was spotted near Ichhapur village under Sadar range in Dhenkanal district Monday morning. Forest officials reached the spot and started an investigation.
The elephant was aged between 15 and 20. While the cause of death was yet to be ascertained, the pachyderm was pregnant.
Notably, April 16, one tusker, two female elephants and a calf in a herd were killed after being hit by a speeding train while they were crossing the tracks in the wee hours near the Teladihi level crossing.
After five days, another jumbo died of his multiple injuries after a train accident, at the Matharagadi forests in Hindol range of Dhenkanal district.
